There are many cold sore remedies you will see and hear about. Some
work and some are really a waste of time. Here are a few time-proven
cold sore remedies that consistently give fast,
effective relief. Keep in mind, also, that a few of the drug store
remedies are good comfort remedies and can be used along with these for even
more relief.

Ice. Still
one of the best cold sore remedies. If applied at the first tingle
sensation, ice can postpone, and possibly prevent, a cold sore outbreak.
The cold sore virus hates the cold and will often retreat from it.
Applying ice will reduce pain and inflammation no matter what stage you
are in.

Lysine.
Works great if taken orally. As a topical treatment, lysine does not work very well.
Lysine helps fight cold sores by replacing arginine in
the cells. Arginine supports virus replication, lysine works to
prevent it.
For lysine to get into the cells, it should be taken orally.

Hydrogen Peroxide or
alcohol. Use on a cotton ball or tissue to keep the wound
clean and to kill virus. You should use one of these no matter
what other treatment you also use.

Tea bags.
Tea is a plant that is claimed to have a beneficial healing effect on
cold sores. I prefer to soak some tea bags for a few minutes and
then freeze. Using these frozen tea bags on your cold sore gives
you all the benefits of ice, plus some of the powerful virus fighting phyto-nutrients in the tea herb.
The best of all cold
sore remedies is preventing them in the first place.
